LCA & Product Carbon Footprint
Collaborative, cost-efficient product carbon intelligence - powered by your expertise, guided by ours.
Your team knows your product. We know how to measure its carbon impact.
Traditional LCA projects are slow and expensive because consultants spend weeks building knowledge your team already has. Our collaborative approach is different - we guide your team through the process using the EcoReko platform, so you stay in control and costs stay manageable.
The result is an ISO 14040/44 aligned LCA or GHG Protocol PCF that is accurate, defensible, and delivered faster than a conventional consultancy engagement.
Why clients choose us
- Guided, collaborative process - your team stays in control
- EcoReko platform to manage and track LCA data in real time
- Cost-optimised - no unnecessary consultant hours
- ISO 14040/44 and GHG Protocol Product Standard aligned
- Suitable for procurement bids, labelling and CSRD product disclosures
- Third-party verification support included
- Some LCA datasets/methodologies may require a separate EF library license
How it works
A 5-step collaborative process
Scope & Goal Definition
We work with your team to define the LCA boundary, functional unit, and the specific use-case - procurement, labelling, reporting, or certification.
Data Collection
Your team supplies product and process data using our structured EcoReko templates - no specialist software needed on your side.
Modelling & Calculation
EcoReko's platform runs the LCA/PCF model against internationally recognised emission factor databases (ecoinvent, IPCC AR6).
Review & Iteration
We present findings collaboratively, identify hotspots, and iterate with your team until results are accurate and actionable.
Report & Verification
ISO 14040/44 and GHG Protocol Product Standard aligned report - ready for third-party verification or direct client disclosure.
Deliverables
What you receive
Full Life Cycle Assessment
Gate-to-gate, cradle-to-gate, or cradle-to-grave - we scope the right boundary for your product and your market.
Product Carbon Footprint (PCF)
A clear, GHG Protocol-aligned carbon number per unit of product - suitable for labelling, procurement bids, and customer disclosure.
Hotspot Analysis
Identify where in your product lifecycle the biggest carbon reduction opportunities sit - and prioritise them.
Reduction Roadmap
Turn LCA findings into a practical action plan: supplier switches, material changes, process improvements.
ISO 14040/44 Aligned Report
A professional, verifiable report ready for customer requests, tender submissions, or third-party audit.
Verification Support
We support you through third-party critical review or verification - from selecting a reviewer to addressing findings.
FAQs
Common questions about LCA & PCF
What is the difference between cradle-to-gate and cradle-to-grave LCA?
Cradle-to-gate covers raw material extraction through to the point of manufacture — commonly used for supplier declarations and B2B carbon claims. Cradle-to-grave extends through distribution, customer use, and end-of-life disposal, giving the most complete picture of a product's total environmental impact. Cradle-to-grave is typically required for EPDs and consumer carbon labels.
How long does a Life Cycle Assessment take?
A typical SME LCA or PCF project takes between four and eight weeks from scope definition to final report, depending on data availability and product complexity. EcoReko's collaborative approach and structured templates help minimise the time your team needs to spend on data collection.
Do I need an LCA for the EU Green Claims Directive?
If your business makes environmental marketing claims — such as 'low carbon', 'sustainable', or 'climate friendly' — the EU Green Claims Directive requires those claims to be substantiated by recognised scientific evidence. An ISO 14040/14044 aligned LCA or PCF is the standard approach to generating that evidence. EcoReko's LCA reports include a green claims evidence pack to support compliance.
What is an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)?
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a standardised, third-party verified document that reports the environmental performance of a product across its full lifecycle. It is internationally recognised and increasingly required in public procurement, construction, and retail supply chains. EcoReko supports the full EPD process, from initial LCA to verified publication.
What data do I need to provide for an LCA?
The key data needed includes: material inputs and quantities, energy use at each production stage, packaging materials, transport distances and modes, and waste generated. EcoReko provides structured templates that guide your team through data collection without requiring specialist software or prior LCA knowledge.
Can EcoReko help with third-party LCA verification?
Yes. EcoReko supports clients through the full third-party critical review process — from selecting an appropriate independent reviewer to addressing findings and preparing a verified final report. Third-party review is required for EPD publication and is recommended for any LCA used in public or regulatory disclosure.
